The Spark of an Idea

Luck & Cinder

Luck & Cinder began as a conversation between friends who loved communal dinners and the ritual of a well-played hand of cards. They envisioned a place where the warmth of a shared meal could meet the quiet thrill of a poker table.

The founders were inspired by Melbourne's laneway dining culture and the timeless appeal of physical card games. The name Luck & Cinder reflects the blend of chance and the glowing embers of a fire—symbols of both poker and communal gathering.

Founded in Melbourne, Australia. A restaurant and offline poker lounge.

A Place for Gathering

From the start, the venue was designed to feel like a private club—a place where strangers become friends over shared plates and friendly competition. The interior features warm wood, soft lighting, and long communal tables.

The poker lounge is integrated into the dining space, allowing guests to move seamlessly between dinner and cards. You will find us at 12 Cinder Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000.

The Habits We Keep

Card-Room Rituals

  • The Shuffle and Deal

Every game begins with a proper shuffle and deal, a ritual that sets the tone for the session. We use quality cards and a deliberate pace. Dealers are trained to handle cards with care and precision. The shuffle is a moment of quiet focus before the action begins.

Physical cards only; no digital dealing.

  • Chip Stacking

Players are encouraged to stack their chips neatly, a practice that adds to the tactile pleasure of the game. Chips are provided for table allocation only, with no monetary value. Stacking chips is a way to signal readiness and respect for the game.

Chips-only table allocation; no wagering or prizes.

  • Table Talk

Conversation at the table is encouraged, but we ask that players keep it friendly and respectful. The focus is on the game and the company. No aggressive or intimidating behavior is tolerated. Players are welcome to discuss strategy, but not to reveal their hands.

House rules apply; see the Card Room Guide for details.
